6 Time Thieves: The Real Reasons We’re Too Busy

By

“Beware the barrenness of a busy life.”  ~Socrates

We’re exhausted. We’re overwhelmed. We’re so badly overworked. But above all, we’re just plain too busy: Too busy to relax, too busy to have fun, too busy to do what we really want to do.

Have you ever met anyone who was not too busy? Someone who, despite having to pay the bills, wash the dishes, and do the laundry always had abundant time left over to use as they pleased? I once met a person like that. I was so impressed that I married him.

It means taking an axe and flame thrower to all the clutter of your life so that you are left only with what gives you real value.

But how does one accomplish this? It seems like a pretty daunting task, especially if you’re really collapsing under the weight of all the clutter that we tend to pick up over time. To bring up a quote:

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. -Lao-tzu

Recently, Maya and I began the process of simplifying our lives. We’re trimming back the fat, and getting rid of everything we don’t find absolutely important. Sometimes, though, it’s hard to determine what’s important so that we can just get rid of everything else. So, I’ve come up with a list of what I feel are the most important tips to help you simplify your life.
