10 Tips For Fighting Anxiety Naturally

By

It’s normal to experience anxiety. Everyone does, from time to time. But, experiencing anxiety for an extended period can be alarming! Unfortunately, many people who suffer from anxiety reach to medicine as its cure without exploring alternatives. While these drugs may help, they are often simply covering up the symptoms, while completing failing to solve the real cause of the problem.

It’s important that we understand that medicine is not always the best solution for conquering anxiety problems. Anxiety is our body’s way of telling us that something is wrong with the way we are living our lives. Maybe we are unhappy with a job that’s causing a lot of stress, or maybe we’re experiencing financial woes. Or, perhaps, anxiety is the consequence of us having an unhealthy lifestyle. Instead of dealing with the symptoms, we should be addressing the core of the problem. I’ve put together some healthy tips for conquering anxiety without the use of medication:

1. Eat nutritious foods

Poor eating habits will only push you deeper into the quicksand of anxiety. Stick to a healthy daily diet. Stay away from artificial and chemically processed foods. These things mess with our body and brain chemistry, which is exactly what we don’t want. Try eating plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables, and walnuts to help lower your anxiety naturally.

2. Daily exercise

I know, this advice is given for practically everything, but it works and I refuse to leave it out! Exercise allows you to perspire and release toxins from your body. It’s also through exercise that feel-good hormones are released. You can engage in sports or aerobics, the choice is yours, but pick something and keep at it. These activities will also offer opportunities for socializing, which can also help relieve tension.

3. Practice deep breathing

Deep breathing improves the flow of oxygen to your brain, which helps you think more clearly. Deep breathing can also ward off other symptoms of anxiety, like hyperventilation. It also makes you feel good! When you take the time to inhale and exhale deeply, your heart and your chest will feel so much better afterwards.

4. Drink more green tea (DECAF)

Green tea contains an amino acid called L-Theanine, which is known to have a calming effect. The decaf variety induces sleep and promotes relaxation, which are important for a person who suffers from anxiety. Green tea also promotes mental clarity which helps an anxious person regain his rational thinking.

5. Get as much sunshine as you can

Sunshine contains Vitamin D, which will help by improving your mental state. An anxious person sees the rays of the sun as a sign of hope. Sunlight also energizes your body. So, get out in the sun and have some fun!

6. Avoid alcohol

Drinking alcoholic beverages will only worsen your anxiety. Alcoholic drinks can adversely affect the production of serotonin in your brain, which can lead to anxiety.

7. Avoid Aspartame

Today, the artificial sweetener Aspartame is found in many things, such as many carbonated drinks. Many people don’t realize that Aspartame disrupts the functioning of your respiratory system. As a result, you can experience rapid breathing and shortness of breath, which can be confused for anxiety.

8. Reduce caffeine intake

Caffeine is a stimulant that constantly turns on the person’s fight or flight response. Caffeine also contributes to a chemical imbalance in the brain, making us more vulnerable to anxiety.

9. Control your thoughts and emotions

Counter your anxious thoughts with positive thinking. Negative thoughts can lead to a poor appetite and an inability to sleep. What you think can greatly influence your emotions and so, learning to control your thoughts and emotions is like keeping yourself mentally healthy. Meditation is excellent for improving your ability to control your thoughts.

10. Learn to forgive

Some people hold grudges for life. Holding a lot of grudges can lead to depression and anxiety. You end up preoccupied with the past, unable to concentrate on the present. Forgive those who have hurt you and you will feel so much better. Get it off your chest through forgiveness and you will be able to open a lot of doors to happiness.
